Neff Gewindetriebe (often referred to as Neff) is a German manufacturer with over a century of engineering experience, highly regarded for their precision-rolled and ground ball screw drives. They are widely utilized in industrial automation, robotics, medical devices, and heavy machinery for converting rotary motion into precise linear movement.

Core Features & Manufacturing

  • Precision & Tolerances: Neff specializes in cold-forming (thread rolling) which creates a high homogeneous grain structure, increasing the spindle’s strength and surface quality. Standard stock screws are typically manufactured in T7 tolerance (52 µm / 300 mm), while specialized seamless production processes allow for T3 tolerance (12 µm / 300 mm).
  • Gothic Profile: Their screws utilize a gothic pointed thread profile with a 45° contact angle, ensuring high load capacity, minimal friction, and excellent operating characteristics.
  • Dimensions: Standard stock spindles range in diameter from Ø12mm to Ø80mm, with pitches up to 60mm.

Nuts & Recirculation

  • Flanged Nuts: Neff offers a wide variety of flanged ball nuts, including versions flattened for limited mounting spaces (DIN 69051) and the standardized KGF-N style.
  • Zero Backlash: Their systems can be preloaded to remove backlash entirely, maximizing travel accuracy, though standard (non-preloaded) options are also available for extended life.
  • Safety & Brakes: Because ball screws are highly efficient, they are generally not self-locking and can be back-driven. Therefore, Neff advises installing motors with holding brakes, particularly in vertical applications.

Product Portfolio

Beyond standard ball screws, Neff’s comprehensive linear motion catalog also includes:

  • Trapezoidal and Sliding Screw Drives
  • Screw Jacks (including high-speed and high-performance models)
  • Telescopic Screw Drives
  • Protective Bellows to shield spindles from fine dust and debris
